Ofsted tells you if a setting is compliant. Thrive tells you whether it's the kind of place a child thrives. Our evidence-led index rates and certifies nurseries on the conditions that shape early development — relationships, environment, workforce and leadership.

The Index
The Childhood Environment Index™ scores a setting across five weighted domains drawn from developmental science, the EYFS framework, and Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework. Each domain is rated on evidence, not impressions.
Key-person attachment, interaction quality, sustained shared thinking.
Physical space, resources, calm vs over-stimulation, outdoor access.
Settling-in, attendance patterns, transitions between rooms.
Qualification mix, ratios, retention, CPD and reflective practice.
Vision, safeguarding culture, parent partnership, continuous improvement.
A Thrive Senior Practitioner visits the setting and works through the Index — every question scored 1–4, every score backed by evidence. The platform combines that with continuous operational signals to compute the rating.
Senior Practitioner scores each question on the Index using observation, interviews and document review.
Live data from your nursery system surfaces alongside each question — ratios, qualifications, attendance, observation patterns.
Domain scores are weighted into a single Childhood Environment Index™ score and certification band.
A branded PDF report with strengths, risks and a prioritised improvement plan — shareable with parents and trustees.

Certification
Settings that meet the threshold earn Thrive certification — a clear, public signal to parents, commissioners and group operators that this is a place where children thrive.
Under the hood
The Index needs evidence. Data Connect quietly pulls operational signals from the nursery management system you already use — Famly, Tapestry, Blossom, or CSV — so assessors and leaders see live ratios, qualifications and patterns next to each scored question. No new daily tool for staff, no child-identifiable data, ever.
Aggregated to setting/room; staff pseudonymised; observations counted, not contented.
OAuth/API adapters for the major UK platforms, plus a structured CSV fallback.
Live signals appear inline in the assessment — ratios, qualification mix, attendance, key-person coverage.
